What to wear

A guide to Indian wedding attire

Please wear what is comfortable for you. This could be Indian attire or Western attire.

For the ceremony, please wear a modest outfit covering your legs and your head. For the celebration, please dress to impress!

For anyone that is keen to wear Indian attire for either the ceremony or the celebration, please see the guide on this page.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Jagdeep or Sam. We are happy to give feedback if you need any, but it is hard to go wrong!

Ladies

  • Lehenga This is a two or three piece dress consisting of the lehenga (an ankle length skirt), a choli (a fitted blouse) and a dupatta (a long scarf). The midriff may be exposed!
  • Salwar Kameez A two or three piece dress consisting of a salwar (loose, thin trousers), a kameez (a long dress over the trousers) and an optional dupatta (a long scarf). No midriff over here!
  • Anarkali A type of salwar kameez that’s having a fashion comeback! The kameez has a long fitted top and flares out at the bottom but it’s similar to a standard salwar kameez.
  • Sharara Another type of salwar kameez! The salwar has much looser trouser with a fitted waistband, and may have a shorter kameez top. Dupattas are a bit less common with a sharara.

Men

  • Kurta Pyjama A long collarless tunic shirt that goes down to or below the knees. It is often paired with a pyjama, a loose fitting trouser with an adjustable waistband that’s tight around the ankles. You can optionally pair it with a vest.
  • Sherwani A knee length coat that’s buttoned to the neck. You can wear this with a pyjama, or matching western dress trousers.
